Konami had success in the Nintendo entertainment system with such titles as Castlevania, Contra and Gradius. Jackal may not have been as big as the previous three I have mentioned, but it is nevertheless a top notch game. It was you and your best bud against the world.
The game premise is simple. You play solo or cooperatively using a army jeeps to take on soldiers, tanks and various other army baddies and break through military bases to rescue prisoners of war. Very much like Contra, you discover power-ups which enable you to destroy even tanks. You get to use army weapons such as bullets, grenades and missle launchers. The game was basically an army version of Contra.
The game's graphics are very dated as NES games are. However, the graphics were fairly decent for its time. The music was very engaging and upbeat. Also, the gameplay is very simple and enjoyable. If you are fond of military-based games or are fond of cooperative games, this title is highly recommended.
The downside however of the game is lack of replay value. The game does not have multiple endings and easter eggs. Once you finish the game, you can just hope to ring up a higher score.
