Ok first off I just want to say, this is one of the best games ever made. On any system. Yes it is pretty old now; it was released in 2001, but nevertheless, it is still one of the premiere games on the Playstation 2 and really demonstrates creator Hideo Kojima's ingenuity and storytelling abilities.
Metal Gear Solid 2: Guns of the Patriots is the sequel to the PS1's Metal Gear Solid. It continues the storylline established in that game and takes it where you never expected. It also continues, the revolutionary gameplay, humor, and stealth-based action established by it's predecessor. MGS2 improves upon everything its prequel had in fact. The graphics are mind-blowing even by today's standards, and the action has never been hotter with improved gameplay and a massive arsenal of weapons. You can play it stealthy if you wish however and may even opt to leave out the ol' ultra violence with several non-lethal weapons at your disposal. It truly is a game with many options.
Unfortunately however, the story is convoluted beyond measure. This game will make your head spin. Just when you think you have it figured out it will completely change on you. The plot takes so many turns it just may leave you dizzy. But, if like me, you love the characters and manage to somewhat understand the plot (which will probably take several playthroughs), then you will be in gaming heaven.
With nearly limitless replayability due to the enemy dogtag collection and many many many things you can interact with in the environment the game never gets old. However, if you are not a fan of long cutscenes then this is not the game for you. It sometimes feels like you're watching a movie instead of playing a game. Fortunately it is a high-caliber movie with amazing production values. If you care about the engrossing story and the interesting characters, then the cutscenes will amaze you. If you are more of a "let's just play already" type of gamer then this Metal Gear Solid 2 will probably get on your nerves so beware. Nevertheless, a game like this does not come along often and in my opinion Metal Gear Solid 2 was only matched by its sequel.
