In September, my partner and I decided that it was time for me to get a new winter coat. Winter weather comes early in the Chicago area, and my old coat just wasn't good at keeping the chill out. We went to several department stores before finally deciding to check out Macy's and see if they had anything to offer that wasn't too hideous, garishly colored, or unsuitable for a woman who would be very pregnant when winter was in full swing.
We were in luck when we discovered the winter coat made by Weatherproof. It was waist-length and a black plush polyester that made me feel as though I was getting hugged by a velvety teddy bear. It also had plenty of pocket space for hats, scarves, and gloves, and the material was just stretchy enough to accomodate my ever-expanding pregnant belly. As an added bonus, the coat was on sale when we bought it.
This coat did have a couple of problems, though. After my belly began to grow, I did have a couple of instances where the zipper came apart after it was zipped, but I was able to fix it both times. In addtion, the pocket on the left side ripped, but I was also able to repair that, so it was no big deal for me. The hood is also large and tends to blow back in the wind, but I've found that wearing a hat is much easier than just putting the hood up constantly.
The biggest thing that made me realize that I'd made a good purchase was when I got caught in a torrential winter rainstorm. The rain was coming down in sheets, and every part of me was getting soaked, aside from what was covered by my coat. Although the outside of the coat was dripping wet, the inside was bone-dry, and I was still nice and warm in spite of the nasty weather.
Overall, I would say that the Weatherproof winter coat is a great buy and an excellent value for the money, especially if you like to stay warm and dry during cold, rainy weather!
