If you're ever in Traverse City, Michigan and need a nice, clean hotel with restaurants within walking distance yet set back from the road, the Fairfield Inn & Suites Traverse City is one I would recommend. Located at 3701 North Country Drive it is set on Grand Traverse Bay, located within minutes of downtown Traverse City and all the wineries to keep you busy for days of tasting, plus the Leelanau Casino if that would interest you.

Upon arriving at the hotel we were early and couldn't check in but the day manager was pleasant, let us roam the halls, checked out the pool area and the eating/lounge area off the lobby. She gave us maps and brochures of the wineries in the area as that was the purpose of our short vacation and assured us our rooms would be ready and waiting when we returned.

Check in time is at 3pm but it was 7pm before we made it back. The night manager made quick work of our check in and all of our rooms were next to each other as requested. The hotel has a smoke free policy, a big plus in staying there. Our rooms were not far from the lobby on the first floor and super clean. We had a king sized bed with 5 pillows, a nice desk area for our laptop hookup with free highspeed internet throughout the hotel, a good sized TV with 72 channels of cable.

The bathroom area was not large but the sink/dressing area was separate from the bathroom itself. There was a hair dryer, an iron with full sized ironing board in the dressing area. Our room also had a coffee maker with 2 coffee pods, tea bags, cream & sugar.

After unpacking we all headed down to the lounge area which also serves as the free continental breakfast area in the morning. We could all sit comfortably and play cards for a while before we headed off to bed. This area provides free coffee and tea at all times, a small snack bar where you could purchase chips, candy, ice cream and pop. While playing cards I needed to take a medication which comes in a powder form that I usually mix in with yogurt. There was none in the snack bar but there was an entire case filled for the next days continental breakfast. Since it was locked my husband went up to the front desk to ask if he could possibly purchase one and told them why I needed it. The night manager came right over with the key, unlocked the case and let me choose the yogurt flavor I wanted, free of charge. I thought that was a sign of great hotel service and management.

After a night of wonderful sleep on the most comfortable hotel bed we've had in a long time (also no hallway noise, no car noise from the parking lot outside) we woke up and went for the continental breakfast included with our room. Here you had a choice of coffee, tea, orange or apple juice and milk. You could make your own waffles and top them with strawberry or apples and whipped cream, there were several varieties of muffins, bagels and cream cheese, a toaster to use, breakfast sandwiches with bacon & egg, boiled eggs, cereal and fresh fruit. Breakfast was available from 7am to 10:30am and a very busy place!

Check out time is noon but we left by 10am with no wait to check out and a cheerful goodbye and come again from the same daytime manager we had met the day before. There is a generous parking lot and we had no problem parking close to the front door entry.

Other amenities also available:

As I mentioned there are 2 restaurants off the same drive up to the hotel, a Cracker Barrel and La Senorita with some of the best Mexican food you will find. We would definitely stay here again. Regular season rate was listed at $139.00 but through Hotelsbychain.com we were able to book the rooms for $102.00 ea. We did call the hotel itself to see if they could book us at that lower rate but were told they could not match it. All around, a very good choice for a nice, clean, quiet, smoke-free hotel for the vacationer of business person.
