After nine years, my first washer broke and required the purchase of a new dryer. Though my husband does not do laundry, he insisted we buy an energy efficient, large capacity, front loader to handle our family of four's mountain of laundry.
We chose the Whirlpool duet because it fulfilled all of my wishes. The front loader has a larger capacity than my previous dryer, and I've noticed that I spend less time untangling clothes, since there is no center agitator.
The use of buttons versus dials is slightly quicker, and it's easier to keep the buttons clean. No more dusty, grubby washer setting dials!
The Whirlpool duet washer has numerous settings for cleaning. There are two cycles for delicates, a "normal" wash, bulky items wash, whitest whites wash, and, my personal favorite, the sanitary wash. Because my daughter has severe eczema, staph infections are common at our house. This sanitary wash cycle definitely gets hot enough to kill bacteria, and makes me feel better about all those towels and washcloths we go through. As a bonus, there is also a cleaning cycle using bleach to keep the washer clean and sanitized. This is not a laundry cycle, but is still my second favorite cycle.
Running time for the cycles varies greatly, depending on the cycle. I use the normal cycle most often, which has a forty minute run time.
While I can't say that I've seen my water bill decrease, or my energy bill yet, I have noticed that I use much less laundry detergent and fabric softener, and this is a great start for me!
