When we bought this house 11 years ago, it came with some of the appliances already installed. The house was new, and so were the appliances. Everything in my kitchen is white-that scared the heck out of me! I knew we'd have dogs, and, well, I'm not Martha Stewart, so I knew I'd get things dirty, too! Well, 11 years later, my kitchen STILL looks white!! One of the appliances, the gas range by Whirlpool, is included in the mix. Yes, the front is glass and painted metal, so it is very easy to clean, so that makes it one of the brighter whites in my kitchen, but that's one of the great things about this range!
The oven is fairly easy to clean. It is not a self cleaner, so you actually have to go in there and scrub, but its not hard-the surface makes it easy to get off tough baked on crud. A little spray, some time to soak, and it comes off fairly easy. The range part is a little trickier to clean, but it also comes off well. There are no guards on this one to keep stuff from cooking on next to the gas supplies, but again the surface makes it fairly easy to clean. I've burned many a run-over pot of what have you on to the surface of this thing, and almost every bit has come off. This again takes a bit of elbow grease sometimes, depending on what it is you cooked on, but it all does come off. I've used scrubber pads on the surface and this makes it a lot easier to clean and it does not scratch the surface at all.
It's been very reliable-the original light in the oven is still working, none of the knobs or anything have broken and I've never had to replace any part of it. The only thing i've had to have done is the oven door-it can come off the hinges fairly easy, and although I figured out how to put it back on, I didn't have enough strength in my fingers to do it, so I did have to call someone to show me a trick to get the thing back on if it comes off again. I think the companies have reworked the hinges now, hopefully they are a bit easier to put on and off. From what I understand, all oven doors have some kind of trick to the hinges, despite the brand.
Overall, this stove has given me years of service and I expect years more now-at first I thought this thing would last a year or two and we'd have to replace it. Boy was I wrong!! It's bee a great part of my kitchen-very reliable and easy to care for. I definitely recommend Whirlpool brand ranges for anyone's kitchen!!
