September 18th heralded the release of World in Conflict for the PC and Xbox 360, and by all measures it's a amazing strategy game. It has cutting edge graphics that even cause my PC with a 8800 ultra to drop in frame rate sometimes, but that is only when a nuke goes off which is a spectacular sight to behold, the smoke and destruction effects in this game are some of the best out there. As for the sound it is crisp and clean, everything sounds as it should. The story is interesting, but nothing we haven't seen before, Russians invade America bringing the Cold War right on our own doorstep. While it isn't anything incredibly new it is fun, especially when you have many different types of units and artillery at your disposal.
World In Conflict isn't your usual city building, resource gathering strategy. Instead you just capture certain points on the map and you get reinforcements, which you use to have units airdropped to you. I would really recommend this to anyone who likes strategy games looking for a little break from the norm.
