My son was having surgery at Pittsburgh Children's Hospital and we needed a hotel room overnight. We reserved a room earlier in the day and then were told my son should be okay do go home after surgery so we canceled. The surgery recovery was difficult for my son so we had to call back and book a room once my son was admitted to the hospital. There was no problem booking a room late at night. We explained the situation with our son. Many hotels will cut your rate if you have a child in the hospital. The Wyndham is one of those hotels. We stayed at the Wyndham a couple years ago when I was taking an exam in Pittsburgh so we were familiar with the hotel and liked the parking garage located on site and with valet service. You just pull up and unload, the valet parks your car in the hotel parking garage. It's really nice. The Wyndham lobby and hotel itself is so beautiful. There is a huge fountain in the lobby. This hotel was very quiet in the lobby area. The employees were very nice and helpful. We did not eat at the breakfast buffet. There is a lounge. We were looking for something to eat and sat down at the bar to have a drink and order something but were too late for food. The bartender was very friendly. We ordered one drink apiece and the prices were high. This being a big city probably the reason. He directed us to a restaurant down the street that stays open late and has reduced prices after hours. We walked about four blocks. The food was good. We were starved only eating candy bars and chips at the hospital and it was a really long day. We were not going to bed without food. There is a Starbucks within walking distance and a McDonalds. Several hospitals are located near the Wyndham although Children's has built a new hospital now in another area. Several universities are located nearby too. The lounge/restaurant area has full windows that look out onto Forbes Ave. I really like this part about this hotel. You can hear the noises of the city in your room. Our luck, street workers repairing sidewalks/street during our stay. I could hear trucks backing up with that beeping sound through the night, etc... We stayed on the same floor as the exercise room. I wasn't aware of this until at 6:50 am I heard swoosh, swoosh, swoosh. Some people were up and running on the treadmill and I mean for about an hour and a half. This was very annoying. The room was clean-internet access-complimentary shuttle. Food prices I'm thinking were a little high. We opted to walk to McDonalds & Starbucks nearby. This is a nice hotel. It always feels so calming in this hotel which is why I give it a high rating. Calmness is a plus! Would I stay here again? Yes. Now that the Children's Hospital has moved, I will find accomodations closer to that hospital. Wyndham, thanks for making our stay a pleasurable one!
