I bought the Xbox 360 Wired Controller for two reasons. One to play multiplayer games on my Xbox 360 console, and second, to hook it up to my PC and play computer games with the Xbox 360 Controller. The controller itself is very ergonomic compared to other controllers, and you won't find your hands hurting after long gaming sessions. The base of the controller also has a slot to insert a microphone for online play. Since it is wired, it can also be plugged into your Vista computer through the USB slots. This way, you can play games with the "Games for Windows" brand with your Xbox controller. Games without that brand name, don't have built in support for controllers, but programs like Xpadder allow you to map functions of the keyboard to your game pad. This process though, is not easy and the final product lacks fluidity that is noticed when playing on your Xbox. I would recommend sticking to the Games for Windows built in support. I only had two problems with the product. First, I felt that the wire was too short. Second, it wasn't very durable, and the sticks got messed up while in my backpack. But if you take very good care of the controller and don't mind the shortness of wire length, the Xbox 360 Controller is a great buy, because it can be used on both the Xbox 360 and the Computer.
