First time we leave the island & out of all the places we get relocated to gets hit by not one but, two hurricanes. All I can say is thank God we are all okay! And our home unlike many others is perfectly fine. We are so blessed & lucky. I must say I am quite happy with the way the state of Louisiana handled two hurricanes back to back. We however did learn our lesson to be more prepared. We did lose power after the hurricane not because the winds or anything but, because the main power line running across the street did get taken out by a big truck. Unfortunately, we did have to endure a few days without power. No internet, no tv, it's like we were cave people! Okay maybe not that bad but, we made the best of it. We cooked on the bar-b-que, iced everything in the fridge & listened to the radio with this handy little gadget.
In Hawaii, after a hurricane is pau (done) that's it. In Louisiana, after the hurricane hits you have to listen for warnings about tornado threats. Aahhh. Nobody told me this. Well, this crazy stocking stuffer gift that my Mom got us last year for Christmas actually came in handy! We cranked away & listened to the radio & at times used it for light. We also taught our oldest how to use the siren in case she needed help & we weren't able to. It does have the option to charge your cell phone or laptop on it but, our problem was that the cord that came with the box had a female end to charge your phone with. You need 2 male ends on a wire to plug into the crank flashlight & into your phone/laptop, a duh, but, not only that you need to have one of those old school Nokia cell phones that still uses those basic cords. Well, I know my Mom probably over paid for this gadget buying it from Brookstone because it came from the same factory in China that I bought a lot of cheap merchandise from before. And only 1% if the things that they send you works. The instructions were on one simple sheet & had lots of grammatical errors. I am so glad that we got one of the working items though. Other than the flop cord it worked out okay. Lesson learned, be more prepared!
