The Half Moon Cay swimsuit by Your Best Look was a great bargain at an end-of-season closeout, and I would not have been disappointed even at full price.
My sister-in-law and I recently went shopping on-line for bathing suits, hoping to find a good sale now that it’s July. Stores want to push school clothes already, and it’s only mid-summer! But that’s ok with us, because we found this swimsuit at SwimSuitsForAll, which was regularly $68, for $17.98.
I was looking for a suit with a modest cut. By that I mean that I don’t like high sides- so that the entire side of your thigh shows. I may be in good shape, but I’m not 25 any more, right? I also wanted straps that won’t slide off my shoulders, since I like to actually swim, not just lie around a beach.
The site SwimSuitsForAll books itself as a site for plus sizes. It starts at size 8. When did 8 become a plus size? Yikes; I could benefit from shedding a few pounds, but being called a plus size is scary. Not all suits start at size 8, and not all go up to 24, but they have a good selection of styles. They offer one piece suits, tankinis, separates, swim dresses, and cover ups.
I chose the Half Moon Cay one piece suit, made by Your Best Look. It has what they describe as a keyhole back to provide bust support. It’s similar to what I would call a racing back, and there is a plastic clip which you could undo to make the suit easier to get in and out of. I was a little concerned that the clip would be uncomfortable, but it’s not. This style back means that I can move around all I want and not have to worry about a strap sliding down. The clip stays closed securely while swimming.
The leg holes are not cut up high on the sides, and fit well. In the comparison picture with my old suit, the leg holes look much higher, but it doesn’t seem much different when I put the suits on. Your Best Look swimwear is supposedly designed to be more conservative than a lot of bathing suits are today.
There is some shirring worked into the side seam at the hips that is supposed to “modishly break the torso to visually minimize the waist and hips.” Huh? Well, I guess it helps it fit your tummy better. I can’t imagine that it affects the look of your body that much. Your Best Look also claims that all their suits contain a tummy slimming panel. I can’t tell that this one has anything other than the lining.
The suit does have a black lining (front only), and soft bra cups. The fabric is 80% nylon and 20% Spandex. This design is in shades of blue with black and shiny silver details. I really like the pattern and colors.
There was a clear sticker over the crotch area which is supposed to provide hygienic protection from others who may have tried the suit on. Seems like this would only work if they change out that sticker on any suits which are sent back to them. But, it was a nice careful touch.
The biggest negative issue is that the tag scratches my side, so I’ll need to cut that out.
The fit is good. I used the provided size chart, and according to it, the 8 should have been perfect, and I think it is. We opted for standard shipping which added several dollars, but it was still a great bargain. The suit arrived in four days by mail.
I bought this to eventually replace a Speedo swim suit that I have. I’ve really liked that one but the lining is beginning to wear out. How do they compare? Well, even at the age of the Speedo suit, it has more firmness in the elasticity than the Half Moon Cay suit does brand new. So, I don’t know how well the new bathing suit will hold up, but for now it’s just fine.
Wash in cold water, and use no bleach (so chlorine pools will take a toll on this suit- they always do). Do not dry clean. Made in China.
