I love soda, but its calories and sugar content are killing my diet. I've tried many brands of diet sodas, but I am very turned off by the taste of aspartame and even Splenda.
Then I found out about stevia -- an herb native to South and Central America. For centuries, indigenous people of Paraguay and Brazil called it "sweet leaf" and used it to sweeten foods. The extract from the stevia leaf has no calories, no effect on blood sugar levels, and is hundreds of times sweeter than sugar.
Wow. No calories? I must try it, I thought. So I searched out foods with stevia in it. Unfortunately they don't allow it to be an ingredient in food in the US, but if you call it a "supplement" they are perfectly okay with it. That's what this company called ZEVIA did. They used it to make soda and called it a supplement.
I ordered their sample pack online as no store on the east coast seem to carry it yet. I got cola, lemon and orange. They didn't taste like their sugar and calorie filled counterparts, but they tasted 100x better than the diet sodas out on the market.
My favorite flavor was the orange. Mmmm... I would totally buy this again if my local store carried it. I have a flyer they included with my package to give to the store to ask them to carry it and I plan on turning it in soon.
