Its really hard to believe that Zippo Lighters have been around so long... My Father was only 12 years old when George G. Blaisdell developed the first Zippo Lighter in a garage in Bradford, Pennsylvania way back in 1932. Remarkably, after 450 million lighters later, Zippo Lighters are still manufactured in Bradford, Pennsylvania.
I grew up using matches and disposable lighters even though my Father carried a Zippo my entire life... Eventually he sold me on the idea of owning a Zippo because of the quality craftsmanship, not to mention the Lifetime Warranty.
I remember he always had four or five Zippo Lighters in his bedside drawer, and every so often he would box one of his old lighters up to send for repairs. Sometimes the wick would be burned down and made it hard to light, or the hinge would be sprung making it hard to open and close properly. Some were so old that the striker wheel had actually grown smooth and wouldn't strike the flint anymore, but it really didn't matter what was wrong with the lighter, because all it ever cost him to get it fixed and working like new was the postage it took to mail it back to the manufacturer !
Ever since reaching adulthood, I have made Zippo Lighters my choice as well. It's really hard to find a manufacturer that is willing to stand behind their products the way Zippo has for almost 80 years. When you find a company that is willing to go to such great lengths to keep all its customers satisfied after their initial purchase, you begin to understand why they have managed to stay in business for so many years !!!
Zippo has hundreds of Lighters to choose from these days... You can have them engraved to personalize a gift... Choose from the hundreds of styles with various company logo's... Or you may even choose to have the Zippo Company allow you to design your very own lighter with you own company's logo to help with promotions and gifts to repeat customers that have helped your business to become the success it is today !
I personally own 10 Zippo Lighters that I have bought over the years... Not because the older ones wore out... Because it was such a great deal that I couldn't pass it up !!! Zippo Lighters start around $10, and depending on what you want, some of the older collectable lighters have sold for as much as $20, 000.00 !!! So the real question isn't, “Why own a Zippo?”... The real question is, “Why don't you own a Zippo !?!”
